An opportunity for change

Nov. 5, 2008, the next day: Election 2008 is behind us. America voted its choice for national, state and local leaders whom they expect to take the nation in a new direction.

Finding an answer

The answer to my question about what would happen if the U.S. Department of Justice should block the JBS S.A. bid to acquire two U.S. beef companies came in late October with the news of a civil antitrust lawsuit.

Reconnoitering the industry

The best way to generate good answers is to ask the right questions, right?

Interview: David Theno, Jack in the Box -- pt. 1

David Theno, Sr. Vice President, Quality and Logistics with Jack in the Box Inc., discusses food safety and his upcoming retirement with NP editor Barbara Young in Part 1 of a three-part Podcast series.

A Young perspective

If a meat-industry company is not in a hostile takeover situation, what happens if the U.S. Department of Justice blocks its chance to be acquired by another company?

Barbara's B L O G

Battling scares drummed up by anti-meat activists is nothing new to the industry. At issue this time is a TV ad campaign wrapped in a threat of colon cancer linked to consuming processed meats.

A salute to industry stewardship: Rosemary Mucklow

Remembering Rosemary Mucklow means thinking of her in a variety of ways that serve as the backdrop for her role in the industry. I think of her as matriarch, advocate and cheerleader. In a sense, she has spent her working life parenting the meat industry.

The EPA derailed the requested waiver on the “ethanol mandate.” Now what?

Barbara's B L O G : 08/13/08

John F. Kennedy had it right when he said running for office is a whole lot different from being in office. Once in office, you get so much conflicting advice from advisors that it is hard to know what to do. It is a no-brainer that concepts, strategies, plans and proposals are only as good as the people charged with their execution.
