Reconnoitering the industry: The best way to generate good answers is to ask the right questions, right?
To that end, a Clear Seas Research project questioned meat-industry respondents for their reaction to a recent Time Magazine “Health & Science” report entitled “Meat: Making global warming worse.”

For another perspective,
read my editorial in October 2008 issue of The National Provisioner. Meanwhile, the following comments that surfaced in the survey (September CLEARPlus) provide a sample of the thinking behind the responses:
• “Most of the acres being grazed by cattle are that way because they can’t be farmed. Where does he (article author) want us to raise the extra grains we’ll need when cutting back on cattle numbers?”
• “Just as it took the American public a long time to see beyond the marketing efforts of tobacco companies, it will take a long time for Americans to wean themselves from our “Beef, it’s what’s for dinner” mentality. But we will get there eventually and be healthier for it. Personally, although I do work in the beef industry, I have taken the plunge and no longer eat beef, pork or poultry. I like my new eating habits.”
• “Unfortunately, if I consume my protein as soy, then studies have shown that I will become infertile and I just can’t afford that. Meat makes us strong and allows us the opportunity to digest natural vitamins and minerals at a rate unequaled in pills.”
