Senate passes $1 trillion Farm Bill

In a bipartisan, 68 to 32 vote, the U.S. Senate passed the long-delayed farm bill, which sends tohe nearly 1,000-page bill to President Obama for his signature. According to the New York Times, he is expected to sign it into law at Michigan State University on Friday.

The analysis of the bill by the Times notes that farmers fared better than the poor. The bill includes a $8 billion cut to the food stamp program over the next decade. The bill also include sno changes to the country-of-origin labeling law, which has come under heavy criticism from meat trade associations. Canada and Mexico have also spoken out about COOL and have taken their complaints to the World Trade Organization.
