The USDA has confirmed a case of avian influenza on a turkey farm in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. The turkey farm houses 26,000 birds, reports the West Central Tribune. The case was reported after the farmer noticed a higher death rate in one of the four houses.

Also this week, a third case was confirmed in Stearns County, which is a commercial turkey operation with approximately 76,000 birds on the premises. This flock was being sampled for avian influenza every day because it lies within the previously-established control area in Stearns County.

These two cases bring the total number of confirmed cases in Minnesota to seven.  The state is one of the country’s largest turkey producers.
