Food Safety Net Services (FSNS), the leader in the microbial, chemical testing and auditing of consumable products, has announced the appointment of Dr. Elsa Murano and Mitchell Sowards to its Board of Directors.

“We are very pleased to welcome both of these highly qualified individuals to our board. Dr. Murano brings a wealth of experience in microbiology and government relations. Sowards offers invaluable IT knowledge to our group. Each of these individuals’ professional backgrounds will contribute to the continued success of our organization,” said John Bellinger, CEO and Chairman of the Board.

Dr. Murano is the Director for the Norman E. Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture as well as Professor and President Emerita for the Department of Nutrition and Food Science at Texas A&M University. Previously, she served as the USDA Undersecretary of Food Safety, President and Dean of the College of Agriculture for Texas A&M University.

Dr. Murano earned her Doctorate in Food Science & Technology from Virginia Tech, and currently serves as a corporate Board Member with Hormel Foods, Inc.

Mitchell Sowards is currently the managing partner and President of ENTRUST, a San Antonio based company providing IT managed services. With 30 years of experience in the computer services industry, Sowards will be a great asset to the FSNS Board of Directors.

Sowards received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Applied Statistics from St. Mary’s University.

Also serving on the FSNS Board are Dr. Gary C. Smith, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Colorado State University and visiting professor at Texas A&M University; Chris Edelen, President/CEO at Edelen Marketing Associates and CEO in residence at Texas Next Capital; and Robert A. Pickard, former CFO of the Broadway stores and Joske’s department stores.
