Forty years ago, International Paper first exhibited at International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE). Today, International Paper remains committed to the protein industry by partnering with customers to provide innovative packaging solutions that continue to realize savings.

“International Paper is proud of our history supporting the protein industry, especially poultry, beef, pork, seafood and eggs, and we are more committed than ever to providing sustainable packaging solutions for our customers today and into the future,” said Kevin Pope, director, national accounts. “Our customers rely on International Paper’s technology and expertise to support successful packaging strategies in a rapidly changing market as well as provide total cost benefits through the use of our sustainable, recyclable coatings.”

Pope said ClimaShield, International Paper’s recyclable moisture-resistant coating for corrugated packaging, provides superior cold-storage performance and has led the way to bring customers wax alternatives for more than 20 years. In fact, International Paper is the largest U.S. supplier with more than two billion recyclable water-resistant corrugated boxes.

Recyclable corrugated packaging also provides benefits over returnable plastic crates (RPCs). “The weight of plastic crates can be up to four times heavier than corrugated, based upon the type of product being shipped,” said Dennis Colley, president and chief executive officer of The Fibre Box Association (FBA). “That leads to loads potentially weighing out before cubing out and requiring more trucks. Imagine what you could do with that extra cash.”

According to Dr. Steven Ricke of the University of Arkansas’ Department of Food Science, "Supply chains would benefit from products that are recycled and therefore single-use as there is no need to wash used packaging and thus minimal concerns of returning harmful bacteria to the distribution system.”
