BALDWIN, Ga. – Joe S. Hatfield, co-founder, president and CEO of poultry producer Fieldale Farms, died Saturday after a brief illness. He was 84.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville. Rev. David McDonald and Rev. Paul Evans will officiate.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the Good News Clinics 810 Pine St. SW, Gainesville, Ga. 30501; First Presbyterian Church, 800 South Enota Drive NE, Gainesville, Ga. 30501 or to your favorite charity.

“"He was one of the leaders in the development of the modern industry in coordination of all aspects of production and processing, of product innovation, and the use of a brand name as a sign of quality assurance,” said George Watts, president of the National Chicken Council.

"Most of all, Joe Hatfield was a man of integrity and quiet common sense who helped his company and the industry meet many challenges over the years. He was always willing to contribute his personal time and the resources of his company for the benefit of the poultry industry. We mourn his passing."
