Mettler Toledo acquires Smiths Detection Product Inspection Division

The Smiths Detection Product Inspection business focused on food x-ray inspection has been acquired by Mettler Toledo. The business will adopt the Eagle brand which has been used for its products since 1998.

“Eagle X-ray Inspection is a successful and growing business with a focused team and sales channels full of talent and passion. It complements Mettler Toledo's existing product inspection business and represents an important building block in our growth strategy,” the company said in a statement. “We are committed to constantly improving our offering and support to customers in the food, pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturing industries. The Eagle Business joins our family of leading brands within product inspection: Garvens, Hi-Speed, Safeline, and CI-Vision.

“Eagle (formerly Smiths Detection PID) customers can continue to count on excellent customer service and support for legacy, current and future Eagle x-ray products. We will be in direct contact with key customers and partners over the next few days to ensure that our commitment to the acquired business is understood and to answer questions.”

Mettler Toledo added that the business will become part of our Product Inspection Division. All employees in the US, Mexico, Germany, UK, and Singapore involved in the Eagle business will transfer to Mettler Toledo.

Eagle will continue to operate as a separate business with its current product portfolio, brand, sales team, sales channels and customer service team. Mettler Toledo will be investing to strengthen field service, application capability and market development. The business will continue to use the Eagle brand that its product line has carried since 1998.

The transfer of ownership to Mettler Toledo is estimated to take place in early March subject to customary pre-acquisition closing preparations by the seller.
