Vantage Foods, a Lenoir, N.C. establishment is recalling approximately 1,642 pounds of ground beef products that may contain foreign material, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.

The product subject to recall is 2-pound trays of Lowe’s Foods fresh ground beef 93/7with establishment number "EST. 34176" inside the USDA mark of inspection and a sell by date of 8/29/11 on the label. The products were produced on Aug. 15, 2011 and were distributed to retail outlets in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.

The problem was discovered by a consumer who found pieces of blue plastic in the product and returned it to their retail establishment. The retail establishment then notified Vantage Foods. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products.
