The Food Safety Inspection Service has updated its notice related to Cargill’s ground turkey recall to reflect that the Aug. 24, 2011 sample of ground turkey referenced in the Sept. 11, 2011 Recall Release has now been confirmed as the Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak strain (XbaI PFGE pattern 58/BlnI pattern 76). FSIS has lab results that indicate the isolate is resistant to ampicillin, gentamicin, streptomycin, and tetracycline.
A total of 185,000 pounds of ground turkey was initially involved in the recall.
