The Weber Power Control, a new operating interface created exclusively for use on Weber slicing and infeeder lines, has earned the 2013 Red Dot Design Award in the Communication Design category of the international competition. The new operating interface was selected from 6,800 submissions representing 43 countries.

The operating interface developed for Weber systems in cooperation with HMI Project GbR, Karlstadt, was chosen as best, based on its outstanding design and ease of use for its intended purpose of operating high-performance slicing lines.

Mathias Dülfer, CEO of Weber Maschinenbau, expressed pride in the achievement and added, "This award confirms our belief that Weber Power Control is an exceptionally efficient interface for our systems, perfectly tailored to the operators’ requirements and setting a new standard in the industry."

The Weber Power Control enables the intuitive operation and monitoring of complex Weber slicing and infeeder lines through use of easy-to-understand graphic elements. It is operated via a touchscreen panel using swiping technology, gesture control and web technologies. Many machine operators are already familiar with these applications from use of their smart phones and tablet PCs.

Weber Power Control informs the operator about all relevant issues in the connected system components. It shows the most important machine performance indicators, including: portion capacity, product yield, giveaway and portion weights. In addition, the operating interface guides the operator through troubleshooting procedures, if necessary. Its intelligently operating elements reduce the number of parameters and thus make machine operation easier.

The Red Dot Design Award also recognized the "short distance operation" of Weber’s Power Control interface. This feature allows the most critical machine settings to be accessed and adjusted with one touch. The Weber Power Control can be easily adapted to individual customer needs.

The Weber Power Control interface premiered during IFFA trade fair in Frankfurt in May 2013 and was shown on the company’s new 906 Slicing System. First deliveries for the new Weber high-performance slicing machine 906 are expected in the first quarter of 2014. The availability of Weber’s Power Control interface on all other Weber machines, as well as an upgrade version for Weber slicing systems already in use is planned for 2014, as well.

Weber manufactures a complete line of high-tech slicing machinery, as well as a wide variety of skinners, derinders, robotics and ice machines. Founded in 1981, Weber operates three manufacturing facilities in Germany, as well as the North American Technology Center and demonstration facility in Kansas City, MO.
