The Hillshire Brands Company announced its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) report is available online at www.hillshirebrands.com.

"Corporate Social Responsibility is a priority for Hillshire Brands," said Sean Connolly, president and chief executive officer, The Hillshire Brands Company. "Our CSR report showcases some of our employees' best work, including our focus on hunger relief. I want to thank our amazing team for all their efforts in this area."

The report highlights the company's accomplishments toward its ongoing CSR initiatives in four areas in total: Hunger, Nourishment, Environment, and Responsibility.

Hunger
The company's philanthropic partnership with Feeding America continued to grow. Through it, the company provided financial and product support to various local food banks serving regions near its facilities. In fiscal year 2013, Hillshire Brands donated more than 2.8 million pounds of food to food banks.

Nourishment
Food safety and quality, animal welfare, nutrition and wellness all comprise the Nourishment pillar of the company's strategy. Hillshire Brands' meat and frozen bakery manufacturing facilities use Safe Quality Foods (SQF) certification, which subject them to a series of food safety and quality audits conducted by qualified third-party auditors. The company also offers numerous better-for-you products to provide consumers with additional meal options with fewer calories and fat; no artificial colors, flavors or by-products; and more whole grains.

Environment
Hillshire Brands' facilities continue to look for ways to reduce water and energy use and eliminate waste from operations. In addition the new corporate headquarters building in Chicago will soon be LEED-certified, achieving a high standard for sustainability.

Social Responsibility
Activities focused on employees, communities and partners round out Hillshire Brands' Social Responsibility pillar. Employee-related programs range from worker safety, where the company's Total Recordable Injury Rate is 60 percent below the industry standard, to offering employees a comprehensive benefits package and job training programs. The company's community investment efforts directly engage employees with their local communities and include activates such as donating blood, participating in charity walks and volunteering with Meals on Wheels.
