Wis. Tyson plant reopens, cuts jobs

JEFFERSON, Wis. – A Tyson Foods Inc. plant that was damaged in this summer’s floods has reopened in Wisconsin but is cutting more than 200 jobs because of damaged equipment.

The plant in Jefferson, Wis. after being closed since June in flooding that hit Wisconsin and other parts of the Midwest in June.

The plant, which makes pepperoni and salami, had 480 employees. Positions cut reportedly include in slicing, sausage manufacturing and stuffing, shipping, sanitation and warehouse.

Tyson decided to make the cuts because some of the equipment at the plant was damaged and it wasn't feasible to put in new equipment, said Mark Odom, vice president of operations for Tyson Prepared Foods, reportedly said in a statement Monday.
