Jalel and Yahya Aossey, executives at Midamar Corp. and the sons of the founder, were sentenced for their involvement in mislabeling halal products and illegally exporting them. Jalel Aossey was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison and must pay a $30,000 fine for one felony count of conspiracy. The extra day allows him to gain early release by earning “good time” in prison, which is not permissible with a one-year sentence, reports The Gazette.
U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade sentenced Yahya Aossey, 45, to three years’ probation, 200 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine. He was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of selling and transporting meat food products that were misbranded at the time of sale or transportation.
