WASHINGTON – The Civilian Agency Acquisition Council and the Defense Acquisition Regulations Council (Councils) are proposing to amend the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) to require federal contractors and subcontractors to use the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' (USCIS) E-Verify system, according to a notice published Thursday in the Federal Register.

Reports say that under the regulation, E-Verify would be required to verify the eligibility of all newly hired employees.

Interested parties should submit written comments to the FAR Secretariat on or before August 11, 2008 to be considered in the formulation of a final rule.

Comments may be submitted through the Web at www.regulations.gov, via the Federal eRulemaking by fax to 202-501-4067 or by mail to General Services Administration, Regulatory Secretariat (VPR),
