In August, 2008, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) conducted its third survey to determine how many slaughter and processing plants have voluntarily developed Food Defense Plans. FSIS would like to see at least 90 percent of establishments voluntarily develop Food Defense Plans. FSIS will use results of the survey to assist them in determining whether or not to require functional Food Defense Plans. If enough plants don’t voluntarily develop plans, you can be assured FSIS will require Food Defense Plans.
