U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced new measures regarding the importation of poultry products and eggs into the country, reports The Monitor (Mcallen, Texas). The changes come after the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced new requirements for processed poultry meat.
According to new requirements, processed poultry meat brought by passengers arriving from Mexico must be accompanied by government certification confirming that the meat was cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 74 degrees Celsius, according to a CBP news release.
