Tauherr Poultry, a new company located in Princess Anne, Md., has purchased a former American Dehydrated Foods facility and plans to process chicken for the Muslim market. Terry Nichols, a former Allen Family Foods employee, is one of the partners in the new business, and he said that an opening date for the plant and the type of processing that will be done there is still undecided.

"We're still in communications with potential customers and buyers," Nichols said.

The company plans to process halal chickens, which are birds slaughtered and prepared according to Islamic dietary laws, reports Delmarva Now.

"We're just looking to develop a very authentic brand," Nichols said.

Nichols and his business partner -- who have a combined 40 years experience in the poultry industry -- are scheduled to brief Princess Anne Town Commissioners on the new venture at a meeting this Monday, said Dennis Williams, president of the Commissioners.
