Cargill sues Greater Omaha Packing over 2007 recall
Cargill Meat Solutions has filed a federal lawsuit against Greater Omaha Packing Co. Inc., alleging that the company supplied Cargill with tainted beef that left dozens sick. According to AP reports, Cargill says that it bought beef trimmings from Greater Omaha that was contaminated with E. coli and turned it into ground beef. About 845,000 pounds of meat was included in the recall.
The lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Omaha said Greater Omaha Packing violated the terms of its sales agreement with Cargill by providing bad meat. The lawsuit requested a jury trial and seeks unspecified monetary damages to cover the costs of the recall, lost profits, damage to reputation and attorneys' fees.
