Animal disease traceability provides a reliable system for locating diseased and “at risk” animals. Systems can trace where these animals have been, provide a timeframe and facilitate a rapid response when disease events occur. An efficient and accurate animal disease traceability system helps to reduce the number of animals involved in a disease investigation, reduces the time needed to respond and decreases the cost of animal disease to producers and the government. More importantly animal disease traceability can save lives.
National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the beef industry have long been supportive of animal identification for animal health purposes.
