ATLANTA – Georgia reportedly has at least one case of E. coli infection that has been linked to an outbreak in the Midwest.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the state has one case that is a match to 44 cases in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and New York.

State officials are investigating seven more cases of E. coli in Colquitt County, Ga., said Taka Wiley, spokeswoman for the Georgia Department of Human Resources. Beef from a Moultrie, Ga. Restaurant tested positive for E. coli, officials said.

The outbreak has been traced to ground beef sold at Kroger supermarkets in Michigan and Ohio. The meat came from Nebraska Beef Ltd. Both the producer and chain have recalled meat. Nebraska Beef has recalled 5.3 million pounds of beef from all states it was distributed to.

Georgia health officials reportedly said the Moultrie restaurant got some of its meat from Nebraska Beef.
