The National Meat Association (NMA) and the North American Meat Processors Association (NAMP) recently took additional steps towards creating a new North American meat industry association, the two associations announced today in a joint statement.

NMA members voted unanimously to join forces with NAMP to create the new association at a meeting on December 21, 2011.

NAMP members, including Regular, Associate and Allied members, ended voting on the action last week and also voted overwhelmingly for the new association.

The next steps include the due diligence procedures by both organizations, followed by the approval of the consolidation agreement by the NMA Executive Committee and the NAMP Board of Directors.

The two organizations have been working on this project since May 2011. The NMA Board voted in August and the NAMP Board voted in November to create the new association subject to approval by their membership and final approval of appropriate legal documents.
