9-1 news: Agriprocessors trial delayed, may be moved

September 1, 2009

A federal judge has delayed the trial of four former Agriprocessors managers until October 13 as she decides to move the trial. U.S. District Court Linda Reade has postponed the trial, which was due to start on Sept. 15, as she considers the defense attorneys’ request to move the trial out of Cedar Rapids to another state. The attorneys had also requested more time to prepare for the case.

Sholom Rubashkin, Brent Beebe, Hosan Amara and Zeev Levihave have pleaded not guilty to charges, mostly immigration and financial fraud charges. Rubaskin has asked for dismissal of all 163 charges against him. Agriprocessors was raided by U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement agents on May 12, 2008, filed for bankruptcy in October of 2008 and was sold to SHF Industries this July.

Old World Provisions introduces CAB products

Old World Provisions, Inc., Albany, N.Y., has recently introduced Certified Angus Beef brand frankfurters, deli meats, and fresh cured corned beef. Each of the products is made from fresh Certified Angus Beef brand cuts and is minimally processed, allowing the robust beef flavor to remain true.

“We are excited to welcome Old World Provisions as a licensed Certified Angus Beef processor,” said Brett Erickson, director of Value-Added Products with Certified Angus Beef LLC, Wooster, Ohio. “The company has a well-deserved reputation for quality and we are proud to partner with it.”

Old World Provisions’ Certified Angus Beef brand products available for foodservice include:
• Frankfurters. These New York-style frankfurters are made from whole-muscle cuts and have no MSG or additives, binders, or fillers.
• Deli meats. Certified Angus Beef brand authentic New York corned beef and pastrami, roast beef, and Italian seasoned roast beef are available. Made from whole, closely trimmed cuts, these fresh – never frozen – roasts are slow cooked for a naturally juicy and tender texture.
• Fresh cured corned beef. True beef flavor and traditional old-world seasonings are the hallmarks of this minimally processed brisket cut.

“For my family and all who work daily to exceed expectations at Old World Provisions, being selected as an official Certified Angus Beef brand licensed processor is not only an honor, but an affirmation of the culture of quality we have worked so hard to build,” said Mark Shuket, president and CEO of Old World Provisions Inc. “We are excited to be working with the Certified Angus Beef team and look forward to developing current and future markets.”
