The Drive for a Global Food Safety Standard



Improving the performance of independent auditors and controlling the cost and proliferation of third-party audits of food and beverage plants are changes many manufacturers would welcome. Similarly, retailers and food service companies would like a more coordinated approach to food-safety management of the supply chain. Addressing those objectives is the purpose of the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an international effort to establish certifi able performance standards that would be generally accepted by food companies and their customers.
