Stellar has constructed a new facility in Lake City, Fla., for United States Cold Storage Inc. (USCS). The 191,000-square-foot cold storage facility features a more environmentally sound CO2-based refrigeration system. Stellar provided all engineering, architecture, construction, thermal and refrigeration installation for the project. The new facility encompasses 5.2 million cubic feet and houses 18,000 variable-height racked pallet positions at temperatures ranging from minus-20 F to 55 F. It includes a freezer, two convertible rooms and 18 truck dock doors. The facility also features extra-wide (60 feet), temperature-controlled loading docks for high-volume distribution flow-through. The docks facilitate cross-docking, trans-loading and pre-staging of product and feature the latest in site and facility layout to enable high-security operations.

Marel Food Systems and Stork Food Systems announced that European competition authorities have approved Marel’s acquisition of the Stork Food Systems division of Stork N.V. The two companies will have a combined turnover of more than $1.05 billion and more than 4,000 employees.

Nu-Meat Technology Inc., a New Jersey-based supplier of industrial meat processing machinery, has signed a distribution agreement with Double D Food Engineering, one of Britain’s leading designers and manufacturers of custom-built high impingement ovens and char-grillers/bar-markers.

Nu-Meat will now act as sole agent in selling Double D’s range of batch and continuous ovens, char-grillers and bar-markers throughout the United States. Double D Food Engineering, based near Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, already has a number of installations with leading U.S. meat and poultry processors. The company’s senior service engineer, Jim McQueen, will be based at Nu-Meat for several months to ensure continuity of after sales and service.

The Nu-Meat sales team for Double D products will be led by Dan Shafer and supported by Bill Taylor, both of whom have sold Double D products for a number of years in the United States. Nu-Meat has also expanded its sales team by appointing Guy Blume, who has recently been working with Bill Taylor developing sales for Double D ovens within major customer groups.
