Prexair ColdFrontPraxair Inc. has introduced the ColdFront diced product chilling system. The system is designed for integration with existing equipment to rapidly chill product prior to dicing or slicing, providing for a cleaner cut with less moisture loss and fewer fines. When processing hot, cooked food products, manufacturers often experience evaporative losses in excess of 10 percent. The ColdFront system reduces those evaporative losses by up to 50 percent, resulting in increased yield and improved product quality. In addition, the system can also be utilized to pre-chill other hot, steaming products, such as hot wings or pulled pork, prior to a mechanical freezer resulting in improved efficiency of the freezer, reduced defrost time and reduced rework associated with soft product.

Additional benefits of the ColdFront diced product chilling system include minimal downtime requirements for installation, a small system footprint and a low capital investment as compared to traditional chilling methods. The low capital investment coupled with the improved yield performance results in a very quick payback period for the processor.

The complete ColdFrontTM diced product chilling system provided by Praxair includes:

  1. Cryogen supply and storage system,
  2. ColdFront pre-chilling system,
  3. ColdFront ultra performance flighted chilling system.

Processors can calculate an estimate of their potential annual savings from using a ColdFront diced product chilling system by going online and inputting a few production numbers at For more information, go to or visitors to International Production and Processing Expo can see video of the ColdFront diced product chilling system in action at Praxair booth 4959, Jan 29-31, in the Georgia World Congress Center – Hall B, Atlanta.
