Chicken recalled for foreign materials

WASHINGTON – Barber Foods Co. of Portland, Maine has recalled about 6,050 pounds of chicken products because they may contain foreign materials, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said Tuesday.

The agency said customer complaints about pieces of plastic in the frozen, stuffed chicken carving roast products lead to the recall.

According to the FSIS, the following products are being recalled:

2.5-pound packages of "Market Day Stuffed Chicken Breast Roast with Rib Meat, with Cranberry and Sage Stuffing." Each product bears the establishment number "P-276" inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as the product code "1037, CAT. C" which is located on all sides of the box. The date code "31881" is located at the top of the ingredient statement on the box.

10-pound cases of "BARBER FOODS DISTINCTIONS Barber Carver with Cranberry and Sage Stuffing." Each product bears the establishment number "P-276" inside the USDA mark of inspection as well as the product code "031484" which is located on the label on the side of the case. The date code "31881" or "31882" is located on the top of the case.

The products were produced on Nov. 13 and were distributed by Market Day in the Midwest and eastern United States and by Barber Foods to institutional foodservice establishments and as samples nationwide, the FSIS said. No injuries have been reported.
