Industry veteran and former American Meat Institute (AMI) Animal Welfare Committee Chairman Jerry Karczewski announced the launch of a consulting firm – Karczewski Consulting -- specializing in humane livestock handling and auditing and process improvement.

Karczewski has spent the past 30 years focusing on continuous improvement in beef operations throughout the United States. Through such continuous improvement tools as Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other lean manufacturing methods, he brings value to plants through process focus on costs, yields, quality and safety. Most recently, Karczewski served as assistant vice president/general manager for Cargill’s Regional Beef Division in Milwaukee.

“It is our mission to foster continuous improvement in animal care and handling in the meat industry through commitment, communication, and collaboration. With extensive experience working with industry leaders in animal welfare, we are well equipped to respond to your company's individual needs and providing solutions to your program and process challenges,” Karczewski said.

The firm’s specialized focus is on diverse cattle populations, including cull dairy cows, bulls, feedlot steers and heifers, and mature beef cows. Assistance is available to producers, marketers, transporters and processors to optimize care and handling in the continuum from the farm to the slaughter floor.

Operational assistance to beef slaughter and fabrication plants in optimizing product value and improve operating efficiency also is available.
