Alberta meat shop linked to outbreak announces recall of pork products.

As a food-safety lawyer, these three words send shivers down my spine. They are all exceptionally difficult to routinely control in products regulated by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). Almost invariably, at least one of these three words is featured prominently in recalls.

Approximately 119,480 pounds of beef rib-shaped patty products may be contaminated with plastic.

Approximately 135,159 pounds of Salisbury steak products (poultry, pork, and beef) may be contaminated with extraneous materials.

Approximately 14,525 pounds of fully cooked not shelf stable pulled barbequed beef products are affected by the recall.

The products contain tree nuts, specifically cashews, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

Approximately 7,146 pounds of raw beef products were produced and packaged without the benefit of federal inspection.

Temperature data showed the products were kept at temperatures greater than 60°F for over five hours during transit.

The cans may contain pieces of hard plastic.

Approximately 1,238 pounds of beef jerky products are included in the recall.
