Learn how American Restore helped ensure the new flooring system of Cal Premium Treats' state-of-the-art facility would stand up to harsh conditions during the production process.

Challenge:

Cal Premium Treats, a California startup producing beef jerky treats for pets, moved into a state-of-the-art, USDA-grade facility spanning nearly 59,000 square feet. The 30-year-old building had a clean substrate on the floors and walls. The new flooring system had to stand up to impact, abrasion, chemicals and food acids generated during the production process.

Solution:

For more than 30 years, Huntington, Calif.-based contractor American Restore has specialized in concrete restoration and waterproofing. To meet the food-processing demands, American Restore selected two APF CastorCrete flooring systems, which are urethane mortars specially designed for food and beverage processing facilities, in addition to Sani-Wall for the walls.

CastorCrete TG was applied at one-quarter inch across 14,500 square feet of the facility. This heavy-duty urethane cement mortar is designed to protect existing concrete or resurface badly deteriorated concrete. It can withstand extreme physical exposure including steam cleaning, heavy traffic and heavy impact. Plus, it has outstanding chemical resistance to most solvents, acids, alkalis, hot oils and animal byproducts while withstanding constant temperature exposures up to 250 degrees F.

CastorCrete SL was applied across 26,000 square feet of the facility. This flowable polyurethane mortar protects concrete from physical and chemical abuse. It’s very resistant to impact and abrasion, and is unaffected by animal fats and most solvents. It has a co-efficient of thermal expansion similar to concrete, allowing it to maintain adhesion when subjected to the thermal shock of hot water.  It can be used at constant service temperatures up to 200 degrees F.

Sani-Wall was applied to 18,000 square feet of the walls. This high-performance wall coating system provides a seamless, high gloss, durable and easy-to-clean surface. It’s ideal for industrial and institutional applications, including food and beverage processing areas.

Application went off without a hitch, and construction was completed on time, well ahead of the opening.
