BW Integrated Systems, a Barry-Wehmiller packaging company, has announced the hiring of industry veteran Mike Girtman as Director of Product Development. In this newly created role, Girtman will focus on driving innovative product development throughout the BW Integrated Systems product portfolio, which includes industry-leading end-of-line solutions such as cartoning, case-packing, palletizing and robotic automation.

“The ability of BW Integrated Systems to develop differentiated products is vital as we continue our journey to create value for our clients across the globe. The addition of Mike to our team is aligned with our intent to develop innovative products,” said Pete Carlson, President of BW Integrated Systems. “We clearly understand that to advance our products across the markets we serve, we require the right approach and a systematic process. Mike brings a wealth of product-development experience honed over a 35-year career, including 22 years at Alvey (Intelligrated), and through multiple collaborative R&D efforts with leading universities.”

BW Integrated Systems is one of the largest robotic integrators in the global packaging industry, with more than 500 installations in 13 countries, and it provides systems integration solutions for virtually every segment of the fast-moving consumer goods market.

Girtman, who will be based out of St. Louis, will work closely with the company’s market-focused product line leaders, and will utilize client input and his proven product-development process to ensure that product line investments create value for clients and shareholders.

“While Mike brings technical aptitude and experience to his role, just as importantly, he is a great fit with our people-centric culture,” added Carlson.

BW Integrated Systems is one of five Barry-Wehmiller businesses represented in BW Packaging Systems, which also includes Accraply, BW Flexible Systems, Pneumatic Scale Angelus and Synerlink. Through their diverse capabilities, these companies can collectively provide everything from a single piece of equipment to fully integrated, tailor-made packaging line solutions for a wide range of industries, including: food and beverage, personal care, container manufacturing, pharmaceutical and medical devices, household products, paper products and textiles, industrial and automotive, and converting, printing and publishing.
