Butterball, LLC
has broken ground and revealed plans for its new corporate headquarters in Garner, N.C., outside Raleigh. In mid-2008, the company will move 70 corporate and management level employees from its current headquarters in Mt. Olive, N.C., into the $12 million, 46,000-square-foot facility. Marking the first anniversary of Butterball, LLC, CEO Keith Shoemaker celebrated by digging a gleaming, commemorative Butterball garden trowel into a six-foot Butterball turkey sandwich created by Firehouse Subs. Butterball will maintain its strong presence in Mt. Olive, where it operates the largest turkey-processing plant in the world, a state-of-the-art, 65,000-square-foot facility employing more than 2,600 people. Butterball is the largest employer in Duplin County.
Tyson Foods, Inc. has been named 2007 Protein Donor the Year by the nation’s largest hunger relief organization. The award from America’s Second Harvest has been given to Tyson for the company’s commitment to distribute protein to help feed those in need.  Tyson donated more than four million pounds of poultry and meat products last year to America’s Second Harvest food banks. Many of these donations were delivered directly to member food banks.  Tyson’s support also includes workshop presentations at the America’s Second Harvest annual Food Conference; involvement of company employees at local food bank events; introduction of America’s Second Harvest as a partner with Tyson and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) in an initiative focused on hunger in the Hispanic and Latino communities; support of Hunger Awareness Day; and recent disaster support for member food banks affected by flooding in the Midwest.
