The closure of L&L Food Centers in December 2010 left a void for fresh meat products in the Okemos, Mich., area, and a new business is aiming to fill the need. Mert's Specialty Meats is owned by Mert Prescott and his wife, Shirley Decker Prescott, both of whom worked at L&L for 13 years, and their son Brandon, reports the Lansing State Journal.
The 2,400-square-foot store will offer premium beef, all-natural pork, American veal and lamb, fresh and frozen seafood, side dishes, produce and freshly baked bread. Goshen, Ind.-based Troyer Foods Inc. will supply most of the meat, while Superior Foods Co. in Kentwood will supply seafood.
