Russia meat and byproducts production up 4.7% in 2011
Russia's meat and byproducts output grew 4.7% in the first 10 months of 2011, compared to 2010's output, the Federal State Statistics Service said, without providing the tonnage.
Reuters reports that meat and byproducts’ output grew 5.7 percent in October to 113,000 metric tons compared with a year earlier. Pork output grew 15 percent to 74,200 tons in October compared with same month in 2010, according to the statement. Poultry output rose 7.9 percent to 258,000 tons.
Cattle and poultry in the so-called live weight category reached 8.2 million tons in the first 10 months, or 4.4 percent more than in the comparable period last year, said the service known as Rosstat. Live weight for the month was up 4 percent at 1.1 million tons.
Russia had 20.6 million cattle by the end of October, or 0.3 percent less than a year earlier, according to the report. There were 8.9 million cows. The number of hogs rose 0.4 percent to 18.6 million and sheep and goats grew 0.2 percent to 23.7 million.
