ThermoPod's cold chain packaging made with biodegradable components

August 22, 2012

ThermoPod Protective Packaging introduces ThermoKeeper Insulated Box Liners, the first and only cold chain packaging for mail order meats, seafood, chocolate, cakes & pies, wine, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic lab kits. Made with totally biodegradable components.

The environmentally green insulating liners are designed to create a temperature-controlled shipping system that is totally biodegradable, thermally sound, and fits snuggly into a protective corrugated outer box. The packaging is a smart, unique, highly efficient alternative to foam lined coolers and other non-biodegradable shipping containers.

The outer surface of ThermoKeeper Insulated Box Liner is a biodegradable waterproof poly film. The inner surface is a biodegradable perforated poly film. An innovative proprietary ultra-insulating padding, which is also biodegradable, is sandwiched between the outer and inner films. The insulation is made from a carefully selected blend of cotton and wool recycled textile fibers that are purified, flocked, and bonded together, producing a soft natural ultra-insulating material.

The insulation also includes an EPA-approved anti-microbial additive for cross-contamination prevention and super absorbent fibers to help draw away unwanted condensation from thawing gel packs and provide auxiliary containment of accidental spills or leakage (helping prevent contamination of an entire payload of sample specimens).

The flocked cotton/wool insulation material is formed into a soft flat panel and is custom sized and laminated with a perforated poly film to form a unique two-piece pliable insulated box liner. The two part shipping system folds together and is compressed to ship flat for lower in-bound freight costs and efficient warehouse storage. When ready for use, ThermoKeeper Insulated Box Liners easily assemble into an air-tight, stand-up container with a full flap-over lid custom sized to fit snuggly inside customer shipping boxes. After use, the container is easy to collapse for re-use or for eco-friendly disposal.

Our box liners and other packaging products, including ThermoPod mailers and pallets, are available through a variety of sources. We are happy to work closely with customers to supply ThermoKeeper Insulated Box Liners of most any size or thickness to fit into customer cardboard shipping boxes.
