The first-ever American Meat Science Association (AMSA) virtual experience was held as AMSA hosted the 66th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology (ICoMST) and the AMSA 73rd Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC), where science and inspiration met. When Harris Ranch renovated and expanded its cattle receiving and harvest floor at its Selma, Calif., processing plant earlier this year, it unveiled a design that maximizes animal welfare, food safety and ergonomics.
AMI’s Animal Welfare Committee collaborates regularly with guideline author Temple Grandin to determine what changes and clarifications are needed based upon real-world use.
According to company officials, Grandin said the plant is off to a good start and was pleased that the facility was designed with the cattle’s comfort in mind.
