Golden State Foods has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art meat processing facility in Alabama. The new facility from the Irvine, Calif.-based company is set to open in the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park and will create 173 jobs, Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller and other officials announced.

"We are thrilled to welcome Golden State Foods to Opelika," Fuller stated. "They will make a great addition to our diverse manufacturing community."

AL.com reports that GSF currently services more than 125,000 restaurants from its 45 locations on five continents. It has approximately 5,000 associates worldwide.

Wayne Morgan, Golden State Foods Corp. vice president, said Opelika was selected for its strategic location along Interstate 85, the available workforce and the atmosphere of industry and government cooperation."
