The parent company of sensor-based sorting, process analytics and peeling systems manufacturer TOMRA Sorting Food has announced record currency adjusted revenues for 2015 of 6,143 MNOK (€650m), representing a 16 per cent increase on the previous year.

TOMRA Sorting Food is a business stream of Norwegian company TOMRA Systems ASA, which is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Founded in 1972, TOMRA operates globally and employs over 2,600 people.

The business provides Collection Solutions, comprising reverse vending and material recovery, and Sorting Solutions for the food, recycling, mining and other industries. This powerful combination of technologies makes TOMRA one of the most advanced providers of sensor-based sorting solutions in the world, with approximately 87,000 of its systems installed globally.

TOMRA Sorting Food designs and manufactures high-performance optical sorters, graders, peeling and process analytics systems for nuts and seeds, dried fruits, potato products, fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood. The machines ensure an optimal quality and yield, resulting in increased productivity, throughput and an effective use of resources.

Commenting on TOMRA Sorting Food’s contribution to the record year, the business stream’s head, Ashley Hunter, said: “We are pleased with TOMRA’s overall performance and it shows further market confidence in our continued commitment to innovation.

“Regarding our food business specifically, thanks to solid development in a number of our primary sectors and the positive customer acceptance of our recent sorter launches, orders of food sorters grew strongly. Process analytics also grew significantly with a large increase in orders.

“We look forward to embracing the opportunities and challenges that will present themselves during 2016. We have a highly capable team and we all look forward to continuing to deliver our promise of leading the resource revolution in food.”

In 2015, TOMRA was named winner of the European Business Award in the category for companies with a turnover of €150m or higher. The award recognizes the company as one of Europe’s best businesses in terms of innovation, ethics and financial success.

This year, TOMRA achieved a ranking of number three in the 200-499 employee category of Norway’s Great Place to Work program. The scheme involves surveys of over 29,800 employees at 186 businesses in addition to analyzing the companies’ organizational and management practices to determine the list of best workplaces.
