Deli Star Corporation, producer of high-quality cooked meats, sauces and fudge, has been awarded a 2018 Top Workplaces honor by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by Energage (formerly WorkplaceDynamics), a leading provider of technology-based employee engagement tools. The anonymous survey provided to all Deli Star employees measures several aspects of workplace culture, including alignment, execution and connection.

“Top Workplaces is more than just recognition,” said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage. “Our research shows organizations that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully craft a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement.”

Deli Star employs 84 people at its Fayetteville, Illinois, headquarters, Belleville, Illinois, production facility and St. Louis Innovation Center. The company’s employee benefits include competitive pay, medical/dental/vision insurance coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan with a generous company match, biannual bonuses and paid maternity leave/PTO.

“My father, Dan Siegel, started Deli Star in a small shop with the goal of producing high-quality products in a fun and collaborative atmosphere,” said Deli Star president Justin Siegel. “Thirty-one years later, the environment he created continues across our three locations. It’s an honor to be recognized by our team members, and I’m happy to know they enjoy coming to work.”

Deli Star has grown substantially since it was founded in 1987. Today the company produces fresh, never-frozen premium meats for foodservice customers under the Deli Star Classic, Chef’s Edge, Gaucho, and Simple Promise brand names. Deli Star recently merged with sister-company King’s Food Products, a producer of confectionary fudge and a co-packer of several brands of sauces, dressings and salsas. The company collaborates with customers in the company’s new St. Louis Innovation Center (SLIC), a state-of-the-art, restaurant-style kitchen and research and development facility and creative home base for Deli Star’s culinary innovation team.

“Our team members are the heart and soul of Deli Star,” said Siegel. “They are a part of our family, and we look forward to growing together.”
