Diamond V’s research and development team continues to expand with fermentation specialist, Dr. Xiaochen Yu joining the company as senior research scientist. In this new role, she will be based at Diamond V’s Research & Innovation Center on the Kirkwood Community College campus in Cedar Rapids, IA.

“I’m excited to have Xiaochen on the team,” said Dr. Victor Nsereko, Director of New Product Development for Diamond V. “She will focus on fermentation and we expect her expertise to play a key role in innovation by helping to drive a robust portfolio of fermentation-related projects that will deliver new and different products for our customers.”

Prior to joining Diamond V, Dr. Yu worked as lead scientist at AB Mauri in St. Louis, MO, where she led a variety of fermentation projects involving different yeasts. As a post-doctoral fellow at Iowa State University, her research centered on fermentation optimization and scale-up for production of fatty acids by genetically engineered E. coli strains. Dr. Yu completed her Master’s and PhD degrees in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, and her Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China.
