WASHINGTON – The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Thursday a recall of an undisclosed amount of Kroger-brand ground beef due to contamination with E. coli.
The Kroger Co. supermarket chain reportedly said the recalled ground beef products have the Kroger label and were sold between May 21 and June 8 in Michigan and Columbus and Toledo, Ohio stores. The beef had a sell-by date between May 21 and June 8, 2008.

The FSIS has said the beef has been linked with 32 cases of E. coli illnesses in Michigan and Ohio. The agency confirmed that none of the affected products remain available for purchase at stores; however consumers are urged to check their refrigerators and freezers and discard or return the ground beef products for a refund.
