A fire in a unopened chicken processing facility in Bastrop, La., required firefighters to drive a fire truck into the building to douse. Fire was reported in the DG Foods facility, which is scheduled to open in July, on Thursday afternoon. The fire was determined to have started in the air conditioning vent.
There were no injuries reported and no citations expected to be issued, reports The News Star. It was not known if the fire would delay the opening of the facility. DG Foods, located in Hazelhurst, Miss., acquired the facility and is spending approximately $9.7 million to renovate it. The building is expected to employ 300 people once it opens.
