Smithfield Foods is closing its Altoona, Iowa, facility and consolidating production volume at other locations to improve the efficiency of its manufacturing platform.
Production from the acquired facility will support Smithfield's existing portfolio of dry-sausage brands, adding dry-sausage production capacity of 50 million pounds per year.
The donation, including bacon, sausage, smoked sausage, ham steaks, hot dogs and various sandwich meats, provides over 150,000 servings of protein to individuals at risk of hunger in Geary County, Kan.
North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges and American Association of Community Colleges grant two awards to Smithfield for the company's apprenticeship programs.
The Mount Olive scholarship builds on the company’s commitment to improve access to education and provide educational opportunities for the dependents of Smithfield’s contract growers.
