The Illinois State Fair is the home to hundreds of competitions and contests, where Illinoisans have the chance to show off their products and talents. This year, the Illinois Association of Meat Processors (IAMP) partnered with the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) on a new format for the Meats Competition and display, all located in the new IDOA tent. At the conclusion of the Fair, these products will be donated to the St. Martin de Porres Center in Springfield.
"The Illinois Association of Meat Processors in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Agriculture continue to support programs to help those in need," said IAMP Executive Secretary Dianne Handsacker. "This year over 170 pounds of meats from the display will be donated. We are so fortunate for the opportunity to provide these fabulous meats to families in need."
The 2015 Illinois State Fair Meats Competition featured an array of cured and smoked meats from several of the finest meat processing plants in Illinois. The competitors of this year's show featured hams, bacon, summer sausage and dried beef. In addition, the meats display showcased special products from Illinois processors including an array of specialty products to include jalapeno bacon, andouille sausage, beef jerky and venison snack sticks.
