Food Safety Net Services (FSNS) will be participating in a training program that provides South African government officials an extensive overview of the U.S. Meat and Poultry Inspection system. The program, coordinated by The Norman E. Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture, will review the U.S. recall system for all meat, meat products, their structure and enforcement.

FSNS will host a site visit and tour of their San Antonio laboratory for governmental officials. During the visit, the officials will learn about the role that private sector laboratories play in supporting food safety diagnostics and practices. The visit will also include a breakdown of FSNS laboratory techniques and accreditation process.

The purpose of the training program is to expand the government officials’ knowledge on current obstacles that U.S. meat and poultry companies face when exporting to South Africa. The goal is to familiarize the officials with U.S. meat inspection, food safety systems, and procedures so that they understand why U.S. meat and poultry is so highly valued around the globe.
