Meat Institute hosts webinar on EPR laws for meat and poultry processors
Participants gain insight into how to assess organizational exposure, engage suppliers and take proactive steps to align with requirements while minimizing business disruption.

Several states are advancing packaging and waste reduction regulations that introduce new compliance requirements and potential cost implications for meat and poultry companies.
To support meat and poultry processors navigating regulatory changes, the Meat Institute is hosting a webinar exploring Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws. The June 29 webinar is set for 2 p.m. Eastern Time, and is open for registration.
This webinar will provide a practical overview of how emerging EPR frameworks apply to the meat and poultry supply chain. Participants will gain insight into how to assess organizational exposure, engage suppliers and take proactive steps to align with requirements while minimizing business disruption.
The webinar, titled "EPR Laws Have Arrived, Are Meat and Poultry Processors Ready?" will feature speaker Veronica Colas, partner at Hogan Lovells. During her presentation, Colas will share:
- How state EPR programs apply to meat and poultry packaging
- What producers must report—and when
- How fees are calculated and who pays them
- What sustainability expectations are emerging
- Practical steps to reduce risk and manage compliance efficiently
Colas is a partner in Hogan Lovells’ food and beverage regulatory practice in Washington, DC. She has practiced in this area for 15 years, and counsels clients on the regulations and policy issues affecting food companies, ranging from labeling to product formulation issues. Colas is a go-to on the many state laws that affect packaging for foods and other consumer products, including extended producer responsibility, California’s SB343 and others. She counsels clients on developing and supporting labeling and advertising claims, including those related to recyclability and sustainability.
