Raised in her family’s business, Lake Geneva Country Meats, she attended WAMP conventions from a young age. While those early experiences may not have been by choice, they clearly left a lasting impression, as Kathy now plays an integral role in organizing these events and supporting the association’s ongoing work.
Vorpagel and her husband, Scott, own and operate Lake Geneva Country Meats alongside their son, Nicholas, who currently serves in a management role. Since its founding by Vorpagel's parents in 1965, the business has become a cornerstone of the community, known for its commitment to high-quality products and exceptional customer service. Vorpagel remains deeply involved in daily operations, whether assisting customers in the retail store, coordinating fresh turkey orders at Thanksgiving or picking up supplies needed for a holiday weekend.
In 2014, Vorpagel assumed the role of WAMP treasurer, succeeding her mother, Rita Leahy. Although she initially did not seek the position, Vorpagel stepped forward when no other candidate was available. For over a decade, she has demonstrated exemplary stewardship of the association’s finances, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, transparent reporting, and responsible management of resources. Under her guidance, WAMP has maintained a strong financial position.
Beyond her responsibilities as treasurer, Vorpagel serves on the WAMP Board of Directors and contributes to numerous committees. She is known for her innovative thinking for any project and task. For instance, in 2025 it was Vorpagel's idea to add value to the WAMP conventions by preparing members for a medical emergency at their business or home. Her idea came to fruition with partnering with the American Heart Association to train members in Hands-only CPR and create Emergency Response Plans during the convention.
Vorpagel is also widely recognized for her willingness to serve wherever needed. In 2022, she stepped into the interim role of WAMP executive secretary while continuing her duties as treasurer. Not only did she ensure the association’s activities continued, but she also successfully planned and implemented the Annual WAMP Convention and Trade Show. In addition, she ensured the transition between secretaries was seamless. She continues to serve as a trusted mentor and advisor to WAMP officers and staff.
Vorpagel's contributions have not gone unnoticed by her peers. Members consistently highlight her candid and thoughtful leadership, her attention to detail in advancing initiatives, her commitment to fiscal responsibility, and her behind-the-scenes support on key projects. Equally important is her warm and welcoming demeanor, which makes her an outstanding ambassador for WAMP to both longtime members and newcomers alike.
In addition to her service to WAMP, Vorpagel has been a longtime board member of the Lake Geneva, Wisc., school board. She is also an active volunteer in her church, where she serves as a wedding coordinator. While Vorpagel is deeply committed to her volunteer efforts, her greatest joy is her family and being “Mimi” to her grandchildren.
AAMP thanks Vorpagel and for her contributions to WAMP’s success.
