Duravant acquires Mespack, global technology leader in flexible packaging machinery

By Industry News
June 18, 2015

Duravant, a global engineered equipment manufacturer serving the food processing, packaging and material handling sectors, announced today it has acquired Mespack, the Barcelona, Spain-based manufacturer of flexible packaging equipment specializing in horizontal form-fill-seal technologies for flexible sachet, pouch and stick packs. This is Duravant’s second acquisition in the packaging sector within 30 days and greatly enhances their design, manufacturing and aftermarket service capabilities on a global scale.

Mespack is a high-technology designer and manufacturer of film packaging equipment serving the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, confectionary, cosmetic and personal care sectors. Specializing in the design of creative packaging solutions that maintain product integrity, extend shelf life and create marketing value, Mespack’s product range includes form-fill-seal machines, multi-lane machines, pre-made pouch filling equipment and continuous motion filling systems. Designed to combine simplicity with heavy duty construction, Mespack products are engineered to enable maximum efficiency with minimum downtime.

With over 1500 machines in service worldwide, Mespack has regional service centers around the globe which are able to quickly source parts and dispatch service technicians.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mespack to the family of Duravant Operating Companies,” said Mike Kachmer, CEO of Duravant. “Mespack is a true global packaging provider and their international product design expertise and export management capabilities enables Duravant to broaden our product and service portfolio into new geographic regions.” Mespack is a strategic acquisition that strengthens Duravant’s commitment to building customer partnerships through operational excellence, globalized innovation, and lifetime service support.

In conjunction with Duravant’s acquisition of Mespack, Enric Marti, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Mespack has announced his retirement. A long-time packaging industry influencer, Mr. Marti transformed Mespack into a leading designer and manufacturer of highly sophisticated and versatile flexible packaging machinery. “I’d like to thank Enric for his passion and commitment to Mespack, its associates and customers. We wish him all the best in his retirement,” said Mr. Kachmer.

Mr. Marti is succeeded by Reinout Van Zijp, who will be leading Mespack as Managing Director. Mr. Van Zijp joined Mespack in 2001 and was responsible for the company’s global growth and expansion throughout Europe, China, India and Latin America. “Our new partnership with Duravant is truly exciting for our global Mespack team,” said Mr. Van Zijp. “Our focus to accelerate expansion into more global regions is now fueled by broader support capabilities with a wider network of packaging experts and service providers.”
