By Industry News
May 22, 2019

In five weeks, more than 900 meat scientists from across the country will be “Meating in the Rockies” at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, CO for the American Meat Science Association’s (AMSA) 72nd Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC), June 23-26, 2019.

The 72nd RMC hosts, Colorado State University and JBS USA Food Company, have created a setting that will facilitate continued technical discourse as well as ample time for networking, socializing, and celebrating the success of all of our industry. The AMSA RMC program planning committee has worked hard to establish a diverse program to address fundamental and applied questions in all of our varied disciplines.

“We have prepared an outstanding opportunity for you to come to beautiful Colorado and network with friends and colleagues, learn something new, inspire the next generation of meat scientists, and grow the meat industry community at the 72nd Reciprocal Meat Conference,” said Dr. Tommy Wheeler, Chair, of the AMSA 2019 Reciprocal Meat Conference.

The AMSA 72nd RMC will kick off at the beautiful Stanley Hotel on Sunday evening with the Opening Welcome Reception. Here attendees can take in some breathtaking views, remarkable landscape all while enjoying some of the best beef, pork, and lamb prepared by Colorado State University Center for Meat Safety and Quality.

The event will start Monday morning at the Embassy Suites in Loveland, CO with a powerful keynote presentation by A.K Pradeep, Ph.D., Founder and CEO of MachineVantage on “Its time has come!  Using A.I. Machine Learning to Mine Consumer Insight, Drive New Product Ideation, and Maximize Marketing Effectiveness.”  Dr. Pradeep, will discuss how leveraging Artificial Intelligence and machine learning can deliver actionable consumer insights, inspire and guide new product development concepts, and create marketing messaging for maximum effectiveness.

The Monday morning session will be followed by concurrent sessions exploring Cellular Level – Cell-Based Protein; Enhancing the Competitiveness and Value of U.S. Beef; Trash to One, Treasure for Another” – Food Waste Management and Recycling; Industry Hot Topics; Novel Applications of Omics Technologies to Improve Quality and Quantity of Meat Production; and Automation and Labor -The Future Outlook in Automation.

After a full day of programming attendees will head over to the Sonny Lubick Field at Canvas Stadium on the New Belgium Porch on the Colorado State University campus for the traditional picnic and an evening of fellowship, celebration, and competition with the annual softball tournament and annual t-shirt auction.

Tuesday morning attendees will venture onto the Colorado State University campus for the "Reciprocation Fair" which will be a full day of educational programs. Attendees will have the chance to tour the JBS Global Food Innovation Center in Honor of Gary & Kay Smith and participate in some hands-on reciprocation sessions. These sessions are designed to encourage interaction and healthy exchange of ideas among attendees focusing on current industry issues and scientific innovations over a variety of topics.  Tuesday evening will conclude with the AMSA RMC Awards banquet bringing attendees together to recognize meat science professionals for their outstanding contributions in research, education, extension, and industry outreach.

Mindy Brashears, Ph.D., Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA), will lead the discussion on Wednesday morning with her presentation on “Science Reveals the Best Policy.” The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has a mission to protect public health by ensuring the safety of meat, poultry and processed egg products. The agency has also made it a priority to use science to make data-driven decisions for policies and regulations that affect the  U.S. food supply. Following the morning presentation will be concurrent sessions focusing on  Industry Update on Bacterial Resistance; Thermal Processing; and Foreign Material in Pet Food – What are the Risks, What is the Cost, How Can They be Prevented.

“The 2019 RMC host and planning committees have put a lot of time and effort into making sure that every event at the upcoming AMSA 72nd RMC will be an unforgettable experience and an RMC that you will want to load up the family and bring them along for a fun filled Colorado vacation, we look forward to Meating you in the Rockies,” said Wheeler.
