Tyson Foods to close Nebraska beef plant in Lexington
Tyson states that production will be increased at other company beef facilities to meet customer demand.

On Nov. 21, 2025, Tyson Foods announced it will end operations at its Lexington, Neb., beef facility and convert its Amarillo, Texas, beef facility to a single, full-capacity shift. To maintain output, the company said it will increase production at other Tyson beef facilities.
Tyson Foods added that it is committed to supporting affected team members during the transition, including helping them apply for open roles at other locations and providing relocation benefits.
Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen emphasized that Nebraska's cattle producers will continue to have access to the Tyson market, despite the plant closure. "Big picture – our excellent cattlemen and cattle feeders have emerging opportunities and will still have the Tyson market to sell into as its planned re-organization will boost capacity and jobs at other Nebraska plants," Pillen said.
Pillen added that Tyson has committed to exploring future value0added opportunities within the state. "Nebraska is ready to build for the future and do what it can do to support employees affected by this change,” he said.
Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) expressed disappointment with the plant closure, noting the facility's significance to the region. "As the single largest employer in Lexington, Tyson’s announcement will have a devastating impact on a truly wonderful community, the region, and our state,” Fischer said, adding that she hopes the workforce's skills will be recognized and utilized by other employers.
